FAQ

Burning Question?

Learn: FAQ

WHAT TO WEAR

Closed toe shoes and mostly cotton clothing.  Synthetic clothes like tights or athletic shirts can melt and bond to skin when they get too hot.  Long sleeves and pants may be beneficial for some to block the radiant heat from the glass and the equipment. However, you'll usually find the glassblowers in the studio in shorts and T-shirts. Socks are recommended, but not necessary.

Safety glasses are provided.

WHAT AGES

We can tailor make-your-own workshops to almost any age or ability.  We only ask to be made aware of any specific needs related to physical or cognitive capabilities to make sure the studio is properly prepared.  For beginner classes or private lessons our typical recommendation is that if the person can correctly follow a simple recipe on their own in the kitchen *safely* (doesn't matter how the food comes out) they are capable of participating in a glassblowing class.

WHAT TO BRING

Hydration is important if your time in the shop is over an hour or the weather is warm.  We provide water but you may prefer to bring sports drink.

If you'd like to have a party with food, cake or other refreshments, email us at booking@burntglass.com about a private rental. Otherwise, no food is allowed during appointments booked online.

Tools and glass color are provided but if you have your own, bring it!

WHEN TO PICK-UP

The work you make in a class or workshop has to cool overnight so you can't take it home with you the day it's made.  We're generally in the studio weekday evenings and random times on the weekend.   Your work will be marked to identify it as yours upon pick-up.  If you are unable to return to the shop we do have shipping options at additional cost based on size, weight, and location.

WHERE IS THE STUDIO

Centrally located in Jacksonville FL on Philips Highway just north of University Blvd in the same complex as AirGas.  It's generally best to plug Burnt Glassworks into a map search instead of the address as that can lead you to the wrong side of the road.  Once you enter the site the studio is along the rear row and it's Unit 201.  If we're open the garage door will be up and a banner will be flying -- come on in!

Recommend calling or texting before heading our way as our hours are inconsistent -- blame the six-year-old.
